One things for sure, there is a lot of negative out there right now. We just came off of an election that half the nation is more than fired up about. It is 2017 and we are still fighting massive social issues such as gender and sexuality equality issues. We live in an era that knowledge and understanding is at the tip of our fingertips and yet the human race can still be so naïve and unaccepting. I’m fifteen weeks in on this journey to open minds and I’ve learned two very important things. First, the environmental, human & animal rights issues I knew existed are much worse than I could have imagined and second, there are truly some amazing people out there making an impact and if gives me an ounce of hope for our future.
My priorities in life have changed drastically in the last five years. I care more about the type of people in my life and the conversations I am having, than how many people I know and how much short term fun I can have. My two beautiful daughters are definitely to thank for this. I find myself watching documentaries as often as possible so I can spread the word about world issues that need addressed. This past election was the first time I researched individual stances on causes I support before making an educated vote. One of the best things that has happened to me is a shift in the people I surround myself with. All of the woman in my life are strong, driven, positive, supportive and care about the things I have to say. We may not always agree with each other on an issue but we are mature enough to see all sides and have an educated discussion. While many of the things worth discussing these days come with the heavy weight of knowing the problem, its knowing that I can do a small part to fix it and that I am surrounded by people who care to make an impact that keeps me positive on a daily basis.
Spreading a positive message
Starting a meaningful conversation leads to new perspective, new ideas and best of all change. So many people get wrapped up in the brand on their clothing or what the price tag says, no matter how you look at it your clothing is sending a message. Why not take this as an opportunity to start a positive conversation? I started buying shirts that say something about what I stand for. A shirt that says “Focus on the Good” might turn someone’s bad day around. Or one that says “You be you, Ill be me” might stop someone from passing judgement on another. On this journey I found two companies spreading solid messages through clothing and I want to share them with you.
Unlock Hope is a clothing company that has partnered with Think Humanity which is a company that runs a hostel for young refugee girls all over Africa. Through the sales of their products the fully fund the education, health care, food, supplies, clothing and more for these women in order to give them a shot at a better future. Their clothing sends powerful messages of acceptance, love and change. If we all make a small effort we can come together for a significant difference.
Super Love Tees
Super Love Tees is all about good vibes. They are not linked to a charity or corporation directly making change but they are spreading positive messages across the states. I can’t stop shopping their site. I love all of their messages and have started many conversations just by wearing their shirts.
